Spot planting native wetland plants and willows from cell grown stock, bare root plants, seed and cuttings is a cost effective way to stabilise lower energy shore, lines and watercourses.
Sometimes, when water depth is prohibitive or water energy is too great, there is a need to use a hard revetment. However, bioengineering techniques can still be used in conjunction with a hard revetment to increase ecological value and decrease the landscape impact.
Generally, hard revetments can be limited to the toe of the bank up to, or just above average water level, with a bioengineering solution above that level.

Rock Rolls are an excellent revetment for use around lake edges and on streams and rivers banks. Rock Rolls are a cost-effective revetment that is suitable alternatives to gabion baskets and mattresses in many applications.
Rock Rolls provide a flexible solution to many scour problems particularly below low water level, where bioengineering techniques will not function. When used in conjunction with coir rolls, coir pallets or live willow, Rock Rolls provide a sustainable organic solution, which can support healthy invertebrate and even native crayfish populations.
Salix Fascines are very cost effective revetment for use around lake edges and on streams and rivers banks. Fascines are manufactured from sustainable hazel, chestnut and willow (for live fascines) coppice.
