U.K. Coir Fibre Manufacturers: Salix manufacture coir fibre pallets and rolls in the U.K. and our specialist custom built machinery allows us to make any size, shape & density roll or pallet, to suit any application. Coir fibre is an ideal fibre for erosion control and has excellent properties for rhizome and root establishment. It is a completely sustainable fibre. The high lignin content in coir gives it the “woody” characteristic & means that the fibre can cope with high-energy water flows and, in addition, has a long degradation period of about 5 Years.
Coir Fibre Rolls: Coir rolls are an excellent technique to establish instant, marginal vegetation around lake edges and on streams and river banks. Coir rolls are cost-effective, organic revetments that are suitable alternatives to hard revetments in many applications. Pre-vegetated coir rolls provide a highly cost-effective method of introducing, instant, marginal habitat and cover to any man made or artificially lined lake, river or canal. Pre-vegetated coir rolls provide excellent instant habitat and cover and are particularly good for water voles. Standard size roll is 0.3m x 3m long. Salix also offer alternative widths (0.2m and 0.4m diameter) and lengths of up to 6m long. Rolls can be supplied pre-vegetated (established) or in a bare un-vegetated form.
Coir Fibre Pallets and Carpets: As with the coir fibre rolls, coir fibre pallets and carpets are cost-effective, organic revetments which offer instant protection against bankside erosion and provide instant vegetation (when using pre-vegetated options). Made from 100% coir they come in 1m x 2m (pallets) and 1m x 5m (carpets) or can be made to according to contract. Lengths of up to 6m can be manufactured. Pallets and carpets are supplied pre-vegetated (established) or un-vegetated ready to plant on site.
Pre-Vegetated Options: Coir fibre rolls, pallets and carpets can be pre-established with any mix of native wetland plants or grown as single species (monocultures). Given enough lead-time, local provenance plants/seed can be contract grown into our pallets, carpets and rolls. A lead time of 10-12 weeks is usually all that is required for this service, with each species mix reflecting the erosion control needs of the site as well as the ecological requirements. Coir rolls are established with 6no. Native, peat free grown plants per linear metre and pallets and carpets with 18 plants per m².
N.B. “Pre-planted” is not the same as “Pre-vegetated” or “Pre-established”
