Wetland Plant Growers and Supplier Specialists
Salix specialize in the collection and contract growing of native wetland plants from local provenance seed stock. Plants are grown for both internal and external use, in applications such as bioengineering solutions, river restoration, SUDS, constructed wetlands and wetland creation. We currently grow in excess of 100 species of native, wetland plants and wildflowers varying from bankside to marginal and deep marginal species. Plants are grown and supplied in 110cc and 230cc root trainer cells. Root trainers offer many benefits for the landscape market as they are cheap to deliver, easy to handle on sites, no messy pots to blow around and no root/rhizome damage due to root spiraling when removing the plant from the tray etc. For these reasons, and many more, Salix use root trainers exclusively for all of their own internal projects. The cells of the root trainer trays are our equivalent of a P7cm and P9cm pot respectively. Salix will contract grow in any other size container to suit clients specification and requirements and bare root plants can also be supplied.
Commercial Reed Growers
Salix also specialize in the growth and supply of Phragmites australis – Common Reed, using local provenance seed where possible. Salix grow Phragmites on a commercial scale increasing supply each year to meet demand. Phragmites is used within our own schemes and for external projects all over the U.K, projects range from bittern habitat, to treatment systems for treating phosphates, nitrates, glycol and iron, etc. In addition, they are used on Floating Islands and for reed bed re-creation schemes.
