Coir Pallets
Salix are the UK's largest grower of Pre-Established Coir Pallets. Coir Fibre is an ideal fibre for erosion control and has excellent properties for rhizome and root establishment. It is a completely sustainable fibre. The high lignin content in coir gives it the “woody” characteristic & means that the fibre can cope with high-energy water flows and, in addition, has a long degradation period of about 5 or more years.
Coir Pallets are cost-effective, organic revetments which offer instant protection against bankside erosion and provide instant vegetation (when using pre-vegetated options). Made from 100% Coir Fibre they come in 1m x 2m and 1m by 1m sizes as standard or can be made manufactured in lengths of up to 5metres. Pallets are usually supplied as pre-vegetated units (pre-established) or un-vegetated ready to plant on site.
Once installed Coir Pallets provide rapid vegetation establishment and as such are often used in habitat creation schemes for water voles
Coir Pallets are usually pre-established at one of our nurseries with standard mixes of native wetland plants or grown as single species (monocultures). Given enough lead-time, local provenance plants/seed can be contract grown into our coir products. All our plants are grown from known UK native seed sources.
