Salix are unique within the UK construction industry in that we are a designer, contractor, manufacturer, distributor and grower rolled into one single company. Therefore our clients can get a holistic, cost effective service from one main source. We provide vegetative solutions to water quality, civil engineering and soil erosion issues as well as ecological and landscape enhancement.
The common element in all our work is the use of vegetation as a key stabilising and functioning component. Commonly termed ‘soil bioengineering’ the use of vegetation in soil stability and water quality issues is ever increasing. Salix lead the way in this innovative discipline.
Our comprehensive services include design, supply and build as a complete in-house package, supported by our UK manufacturing of erosion control products, extensive native wetland plant production, specialist staff and mechanical plant. For every individual project Salix are committed to providing a solution led approach with a strong technical and practical support base.
Salix are founding members of the “European Soil & Water Engineering Group”, an organisation consisting of a European network of erosion control and bioengineering experts.
In the past, traditional engineering practices have relied on hard revetment techniques to control erosion. These practices are expensive to construct, completely unsustainable and can greatly reduce the ecological value of a site.
Soil bioengineering solutions offer a cost effective and truly sustainable alternative to problems that would traditionally have been addressed with ‘hard’ engineering methods. When used appropriately soil bioengineering can enhance long-term stability, greatly improve landscape aesthetics, reduce environmental impact, increase the sustainability of materials used and enhance the ecological value of a site.
